So you will never believe it, today is ANOTHER holiday. I swear when I go home I am going to miss having a holiday every other week or so…
Anyways last night began Lag BaOmer, which I can’t pronounce for the life of me, what exactly celebrates or commemorates is a bit fuzzy the important part is the bonfires..
All over Israel people build large bonfire, the boys of the ulpan took this to mean it isn’t a bonfire unless you can see it from outer space..we did have a bonfire last night and managed not to burn the ulpan down…yay for us
So instead of the usual supper there were hotdogs, baked potatoes and smores! Have I mentioned that I love holidays that include smores?
Yet it didn’t even occur to me until last night that the Russians and South Africans had absolutely no idea what a smore was or how to create them…myself and the other Americans took it upon ourselves to teach smore making 101..
All and all it was rather successful endeavor, ok so a few marshmellows were lost to the fire, and ok kosher marshmallows are a bit strange…not gonna lie, and we didn’t have real graham crack but we had the essence of smores and that is the important thing..
It is funny what you learn about being surrounded by other culture, like how to drink vodka straight out of the bottle or swear in a language no one at home will ever understand, or teaching someone how to make smores..
My work here is done…I have come, I have seen, I have learned, I have taught how to make smores..and really how else can success be measured?
