I love a good protest, personally I think Americans are not
nearly passionate enough about things. I mean Europeans light crap on fire over soccer matches for no apparent reason this summer in England..If we get
more than ten people in a place at a time for the same reason it is probably
for the Black Friday sale. So when the Occupy Wall Street movement began I waspretty excited to see where it would go..and like to think I would be part of
it, if I didn’t have to show up for work everyday. But despite the fact it is
still going on, there is no clear leadership or goal so it is more like
Woodstock without music. But this week I read that they attacked Birthright.
For those of you who don’t know Birthright offers free trip to young Jews from
all over the world to Israel…awesome right? I went on said trip in 2009, and it was a wonderful experience. But according to the Occupy people, it is
supported by that 1%, to influence us that Israel is not an evil apartheid
state. To this I say, lay off the crack Occupy people. Here are the reason you
have done lost your mind!
1.Even if it is supported by the 1%, yes it is
super bad that they are giving their money away? So they are bad for being rich but even worse for giving it away? Makes perfect sense!
2. The trip is for young Jews, and while there areexceptions for the most part WE ALREADY SUPPORT ISRAEL!
3. Maybe you arejust angry cause you got waitlisted, because every year more and more people want to go!
4. And instead of camping out in a park, for no clearpurpose, Birthright encourages people to see Israel firsthand. Yes you may not visit settlements or the West Bank,but you see the temple mount, where wearen’t allowed to go and get escorted by soldiers going through East Jerusalem.
5. By attacking anything and everything the movement youare trying so hard to make valid is becoming less and less legitimate. AttackingIsrael is nothing new, but by attacking Birthright you are in turn attackingthousands of young Jews who have been on the trip which isn’t cool. Cause I assure you I am part of that 99%and when you start attacking your own ..your cause has died.
